The Herb & Pleasure Garden located (behind the Wolf
Academy and pictured above) at the Governor Wolf Historical Society
Park was designed and installed in 2003 by the Ridge & Valley Unit of
the Herb Society of America.
Dedicated in 2009 to the memory of former historical society
president, Richard Nye, the garden is now maintained by the Valley
Herb Guild. The plant
material is typical of the late 18th century, and the
garden plan is a modified four square German design.
Espaliered apple tree fences and arbors are interesting
features of this garden.
Contributions from Keystone Cement, the DAR, Point Phillips
Perennials, and the Bethlehem Garden Club as well as proceeds from the
guild’s annual plant auction have funded this important educational
project.
